How we teach
Each lesson balances sound production with musical material you care about. We listen first: how the bow meets the string, how the left hand lands, where tension hides in the shoulder. Then we build a short plan for the week—three to five practice blocks with timers you can keep after work.
Adult beginners often fear “starting late.” We treat that as noise. Hands learn with repetition and clear landmarks. You will hear progress in open-string resonance before you chase speed.
Formats
Forty-five minute lessons suit busy evenings. Sixty-minute sessions leave room for repertoire coaching and slow run-throughs. Technique clinics of thirty minutes attach to a longer lesson when shifting or vibrato needs a focused drill without abandoning your piece.
Duets welcome friends or partners who want shared reading. We supply parts suited to mixed levels so nobody sits silent while the other flies ahead.
Placement without pressure
Before you enrol, we offer a short call or email exchange about your instrument, prior study, and available hours. The first studio visit can be a trial. You leave knowing whether the room, the pacing, and the feedback style fit—no hard sell, just clarity.

Practice that survives a week
We write plans in plain English: warm-up length, focus drill, repertoire pass, cool-down listen. If your week collapses, we shrink the plan rather than shame the gap. Consistency beats heroic weekends.

Bring what you have. If you are shopping, ask us before you spend—Manchester has rental and purchase options we can talk through without affiliate theatre. Setup issues (bridge, pegs, bow hair) get honest referral to local luthiers when needed.
